Doomed Customer Reviews

:
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Justin -- Big Palahniuk fan but save your money.. : I've thoroughly enjoyed some of Palahniuk's past work but this and Damned were seriously a chore to get through sometimes. I'm not the type to get overly technical and if that makes me seem dumb then so be it. I'm just being honest about my reading experience. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2020 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Miss Riki -- Crazy in Every Way, But a Ton of Fun! : Written in the form of blog posts from the afterlife, Doomed tells the tale of everyone’s favorite snarky thirteen-year-old, Madison Spencer, as she is caught between Earth and Hell in a sort of Purgatory. The voice is everything you’ve grown to love about Palahniuk, and Madison is delightfully sarcastic and pretty much pissed off for the length of the novel. But isn’t that how we all love her? Her witty observations about the world around her are what make these books so wonderful, and there’s no lack of wry humor and biting satire in this second installment of the Damned series. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Lionel S. Taylor -- Sequal That Departs From the Original But Fills in Back Story : Like many of the other reviewers have said, this book is very different from Damned. Many of the characters from the other story are not in it and the setting is totally different much of the story is told in a flashback. That being said it does give a lot of the background to explain why Madison ended up in Hell in the first place. Also knowing that Madison Spencer's story is ment to be a trilogy it makes sense that this story would take a departure from the first book. If you liked Damned you will like Doomed because though it doesn't have a lot of the characters from the first one it has the one that matters Madison and gives the reader insight into why she is the way she is. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Ben -- Second book in a trilogy : Follow up to Damned so I had to keep going with the series. I found it to be an interesting story but Chuck went a bit far in some of descriptions. Overall I kept going and it all tied together. The conclusion kept me wanting to finish the series when the final book comes out to see what happens to Maddy Spencer and the world. If you liked Damned I would suggest reading Doomed you might be a bit let down but at the conclusion I think you will have enjoyed the book. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mary Dietz -- Shocking, gross, & AMAZING : Read this before Damned (I didn't know it was a sequel) and LOVED IT. Of course Chuck's writing is the best, even when its gross and shocking which makes me love it more. Damned does give more context but the backstory in Doomed is really well written. Awesome book as always. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2018 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from jwinters -- Madison's sophomore year was a little rough, but pretty great : In this sequel to Chuck's earlier book, "Damned" where Chuck becomes a sort of Dante Alighieri leading us through the bowels of hell through the eyes of a 13 year old girl continues with Doomed, which presents us with essentially prequel information that actually gives more depth to your reading of Damned as it also presents you with new narrative adventures with Madison. Unfortunately, sometimes the action gets a little slow, but generally speaking - if you liked Damned, you really need to continue your fascination with her life and watch for some exciting, surprising, and at times, mind blowing reveals. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from EA~ -- Not quite as good as Damned : The first 75% builds to an exciting final 25%. A good sexual, but as is usual the case the first is better. Palahniuk is one of my favorite authors but can't say I'd recommend this book unless you're a Chuck fan. I think first time Chuck readers may be turned off as this being their first read. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dana Doll -- Darkly hilarious : Palahniuk is as hilarious and irreverent as ever. Quite a bit different from Damned, but still well worth reading. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from miss michelle Taylor -- Doesn't live up to promise. : Doesn't live up to the promise of the first bok. It more-or-less completes the story but then again the tale is left open for another. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Loving it! : It's brilliantly blackly funny ! Only Palahniuk could think up stuff like this. I haven't finished it yet, but have enjoyed every chapter so far, and it rattles along. Wish I had thought of writing something like it. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 17, 2014 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Saqa Jupitus -- Doomed, the follow up up to Damned! : Not a bad book but not my favourite Chuck book either and it appears that it has been left open for a possible third follow up to the on going saga! It is advisable to read Damned before Doomed so that you can follow the plot easier. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 31, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from louise arnold -- Five Stars : Thanks ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 18, 2018 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Agni -- Funny but lacked something : Madison is back, with a twisted and humorous vengeance. The story unravels back to earth and the twisted humour had me smirking many times on the train and nodding in sarcastic agreement with Chuck. However, just like the prequel, it gets to a point where it leaves you hanging, again. Shame. Unless Madison and her friends return to delight her gentle tweeters.
